MDA: Model-Driven Ambiguity

I've collected a few bounded contexts on the usage of being "model-driven": Model-Driven Design:  being driven by the need to capture a model of the problem space in the structure and elements of a software system (see: Domain-Driven Design) Model-Driven Development: allowing the process (activities/workflows) of forming software structures to be largely driven by a model (i.e. a Use Case Model) of the desired deliverable (see: Unified Process, Rational Unified Process) Model-Driven Architecture: allowing the platform-specific implementation (i.e. c#, .NET) to be driven (or generated) off a Platform Independent Model (PIM) captured in UML (see: Model-Driven Architecture...

Free Hosting and CMS for UGs

I just ran across this offer for User Groups, so I'm definitely going to have to investigate. Telerik (the controls guys) are offering a free standard license ($899) along with free hosting from discountasp.net for user groups. And I do have to say that the showcase sites don't look half shabby: Metro Toronto .NET Users Group North Houston .NET User Group Southeast Valley .NET Users Group The Nashville user group has had its web site under overhaul for way too long, and this might be just...

The Google Bus

Living in Nashville, Tennessee, I don't see a lot of swag from the likes of Google, Yahoo, or the other big techies out in California.  Today, however, I managed to bump into the Google bus parked outside P.F. Changs.  Way cool!   Apparently, they are on a cross-country campus tour.

That Architecture Thing

I'm going through the Patterns and Practices Application Architecture guidance.  The first place I'll start is with the Architecture and Design Guidelines. Let's start right at the top: Software Architecture is often described as the organization or structure of a system, while the system represents a collection of components that accomplish a specific function or set of functions. In other words, architecture is focused on organizing components to support specific functionality. This organization of functionality is often referred to as grouping components into “areas of concern”. The following diagram represents a common application architecture with...

Back to Business

For the recent past, I've been sporadically posting over at Los Techies.  The keyword in that last sentence was "sporadically." I've come to the decision that I'd like to refocus my efforts on blogging.  As part of that decision, I'd like to move back to my own domain. I do, however, want to thank the great guys over at Los Techies for hosting me.  They have a rock star blog lineup, and if you don't subscribe, I'd highly recommend it.
